Jun 13, 2017 · Smoke is actually composed of particles of incompletely burned material. The denser the snoke, the less well burned the fuel is. In the case of a candle, the wax is the main fuel with the wick providing a small amount of the fuel. Too much wick means too much fuel i.e. the wax being wicked up the string (wick) to completely burn.
Trim candle wicks to 5mm each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping. If the candle smokes, flickers or flame becomes too high, put out the candle and let it cool. Trim the wick and check for draughts.
